Being a Christian is about getting to know Jesus personally. It’s hard to do in some ways, since he is not in the flesh; so we have to use our minds and imaginations, and depend on the Holy Spirit and the Word to help us.
This is why I love the Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis. His imagination is vivid and fertile. The main character, Aslan, is a majestic and mysterious lion who “haunts” the lives of children on epic adventures. It is a great help in imagining and understanding the character of Jesus.
From Voyage of the Dawn Treader:
“Oh Aslan,” said Lucy. “Will you tell us how to get into your country from our world?”
“I shall be telling you all the time,” said Aslan. “But I will not tell you how long or short the way will be; only that it lies across a river. But do not fear that, for I am the great Bridge Builder.”
“You shall meet me there, dear one,” said Aslan. But there I have another name. This was the very reason why you were brought to Narnia, that by knowing me here for a little, you may know me better there.”
